Charlotte and Larry Petty invited
me out to visit their lot in Kerrville Texas, and after thirty minutes
invited me out to their ranch in the country away from the hurried life
in Kerrville. We spent the afternoon discussing their vision for the
new home in the city, it was immediately apparent that they had good
taste.
Some relatives of theirs had a home designed by San Antonio Architects
Lake/Flato.
The Petty's were interested in the Texas Regional style, but without
the industrial iron and metal. They wanted an open plan, and had a
modest budget in comparison to their relatives. Although they wanted a
single story house, the lot did not allow for it.
Upstairs we incorporated a bonus room that is strictly for resale, and
future
owners. The costs to incorporate the structural components of the bonus
room were insignificant in comparison to the potential addition to the
resale value of the home.
