Ed and Benita Johnson, fell in love
with Angelfire, New Mexico, and in 2000 and 2001 they had visited
Angelfire during the summer and had made offers on two houses.
Unfortunately, for various reasons those offers have fallen through.
After much discussion about budget and time frames, it was decided that
building would be a better solution for them.
In November of 2002, we visited Angelfire with the intent of finding a
lot to build a custom home on. There were a large number of lots
available, and after two days we located a great lot. We worked out the
initial design over Thanksgiving 2002. The home was completed in August
of 2004, things move a little slower up there.
Both Ed and Benita are gourmet cooks, so the kitchen had to be
functional within budget, and it had to allow for two people to cook
without running into each other. They also collect Kachina dolls and it
was important to include some decorative niches to allow for their
display. Southwestern style architecture fits perfectly with their
lifestyle.
The Kokopelli
stained glass fireplace screen was
designed and built by my wife,
Lisa Chronister.
