The goal of the project is to be Net-Zero. Some passive solar design elements, include large overhangs and attention to the orientation.
Additional features include Spray foam insulation in the walls and at the roof deck, Anderson windows, Kynar coated metal roofing, Energy Star appliances, dual flush toilets, high efficiency lighting, stained concrete.
Karen + Tory Meyer worked with me to design this guest house over 7 years later, this is the third design I have worked on with them.
This home was designed to be net-zero, however, many factors can influence wether a home is functionally net-zero. This can include the plans and specifications being followed, pools, electric cars, and overall homeowner habits.
This is the second house where we've used Elliot Johnson as our architect - which says a lot.
Elliot has an excellent sense of design and was able to accentuate the features of our land in both of our builds, creating houses that reflected our wishes and his insights of design.
He enjoys the process of figuring out and implementing what you really want.
Elliot helped us consider all of our options, encouraged us to sit with decisions rather than rush us through the process and was endlessly patient as we moved through decision making.
Elliot was also excellent at considering cost in his compositions so that our houses could fit within our budgets. We would highly recommend Elliot Johnson as a residential architect.
